The Ensemble EYEmusic scores are a departure from the original approach to creating graphic notation. Rather than using one panel as a complete score, I moved toward creating a series of parts. This approach first appeared in EYEmusic VIII (the border). Commissioned by Paul Connolly for a performance at NMASS 2018, I created five parts for a solo instrument (in the premiere the solo instrument was a typewriter) and a non-traditional string quartet consisting of violin, viola, cello and bass.
In EYEmusic VII (the heroes journey-six meditations on steretyping) commissioned by Shaun Renzoh Head, the hidden story was very intricate, full of nuance and details that made it difficult to place into one panel. I began to think of a chamber concerto. I paired the shakuhachi flute with a traditional string quartet, but as the solo part was going to be more involved, I created different panels for the solo flute. These six are the solo flute parts. One panel for each movement of the work.
