Visualizations of sound frequencies interacting with each other. The visual parallel inspired by the Cantus Incognito series.
What if the basic building block of music was different?
What if we used pitches in motion (glissandi) as the basic building block as opposed to sustained pitch?
What would it sound like?
What if?...
If one truly takes to heart all of the developments and explorations in music and sound from the past 100 years, then the sound spectrum should not be taught or experienced as discreet steps of specified frequency, rather one should be free to create the basic building block as one sees fit, and accordingly use what one has discovered in crafting sounds that are reflective of our era. Rather than using glissandi as coloration, it is the structural foundation of this series. As there is no standardized notation, I have been developing notation that will be recognizable to traditional musicians, as well as applications in MAX that can realize the score.

Listening to the glissandi interactions has in turn created these visualizations of the glissandi in motion, interactions that happen at musical distances smaller than our standard notation allows.
Look at the images and listen to the Cantus Incognito track

visualization of a rarefaction and compression pattern - a perfect unison

the static pitch splits, revealing divergent glissandi and the creation of the first beat

visualization of two divergent glissandi widening the span between fundamental frequencies

the first appearance of regular beating between two glissandi

triad

visualization of the phenomenon of pulse between two converging glissandi

observation of the interference pattern of two glissandi

visualization of the center of the oscillation

two oscillation centers coalesce, resolving the energy state
